Rutin, a New Drug From Buckwheat
نویسنده
چکیده
The story of rutin begins in 1842, when it was first prepared by a pharmacist-chemist of Nuremberg, Germany, named August Weiss, who obtained it from garden rue, Ruta graveolens. As time went on, chemists found rutin in a number of plants. Rutin is a yellow, crystalline powder with the formula C^iKnO^^/dK^O. It is only slightly soluble in water, more soluble in alcohol, acetone, and alkaline solutions, and insoluble in chloroform, ether, and the hydrocarbons. Rutin is a glycosidc, which is hydrolyzed to form one molecule each of quercetin, glucose, and rhamnose when it is boiled with 2 percent sulfuric acid. Quercetin is a well-known chemical substance belonging to the class of flavonols, a class whose representatives are widely distributed in the plant kingdom. Rutin is reasonably stable in boiling w^ater and may be recrystallized from that medium for purification. It has been the subject of many chemical studies and its chemical nature is thoroughly understood. Extensive studies by pharmacologists at the Western Regional Research Laboratory and by others have shown that rutin is nontoxic. For a century after its discovery, rutin remained without any known use, although plants containing it were sometimes used as dycstuffs. This use disappeared with the advent of the synthetic coal-tar colors.

Buckwheat rutin has been found to be able to inhibit angiotensin II (AngII) - induced hypertrophy in cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes, but the mechanism remains uncertain. In this study, myocardial hypertrophy model was made by adding AngII to the medium of cardiac myocytes of neonatal rats, meanwhile, different concentrations of buckwheat rutin were applied to observe their effects. متن کاملEffect of rutin from tartary buckwheat sprout on serum glucose-lowering in animal model of type 2 diabetes.
This study investigates the anti-diabetic effects of rutin from tartary buckwheat sprout in type 2 diabetes mouse model. The rutin content in tartary buckwheat sprout (TBS) is five times higher than that found in common buckwheat sprout (CBS) as evident from high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. Administration of either rutin or TBS ethanolic extract to diabetes mice decreased the se...

The aim of this study was to determine the variation of phenolic compounds in common and tartary buckwheats collected from China, Japan and Korea. Two buckwheat varieties of each country were cultivated using nutrient solution and vermiculite in the greenhouse from February to May, 2012 and harvested at twoweek intervals. Phenolics such as chlorogenic acid, C-glycosylflavones (orientin, isoorie...

Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is a healthy and nutritionally important food item. In this study, we investigated the hepatoprotective effects of 75% ethanol extracts from tartary buckwheat (EEB) against ethanol- and carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced liver damage. EEB were administered to C57BL/6 mice (ethanol induction) and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats (CCl(4) induction) for 4 and 8 c...
